Does San Francisco fog have you down? Us too. Don’t worry, just a quick drive away, there’s plenty of summer activities to enjoy.
We recently loaded the car, packed the ChipmunkBags, tied the boards to the roof, and headed down the coast for a summer surf retreat just north of Santa Cruz. The spot’s called Four Mile, and if you’re looking for some quality surf or just a chill beach day, it’s definitely worth the drive.
The day started in a typical SF fashion. Foghorns, mist on the car, you know the drill. Despite the gloomy weather, the crew had confidence we'd escape Karl and find a bit of summer. So, we grabbed our swimsuits, loaded the ChipmunkBags with towels, blankets, wetsuits, and beers, went by Cheese Plus for some killer sandwiches and hit the road.
The drive down Highway 1 is freaking epic. Beautiful coastline, farms, and lighthouses are just a few of the area’s main sights. When we arrived at Four Mile, the marine layer was lurking, but the firing surf offered a nice distraction. After a quick walk down to the beach, we set up camp, waxed the boards, and paddled out. Two hours in the water was just enough time for the sun to come out, allowing us to enjoy a nice taste of summer.
After some quality BBQ at Highway 1 Brewery and a quick drive up the coast, we arrived back in SF. We weren't sure if the fog ever burned off, but we were all stoked with our quick fix of summer.
With a little effort and a short drive, you’re guaranteed to find endless adventures around San Francisco. When the time comes for your next trip, make sure to take a ChipmunkBag along for the ride. You’ll quickly find out that it’s much more than a laundry bag!
